Wake up. Eat. Netflix. Sleep. Repeat.
Undoubtedly, this was the summer routine for many of us. Having such a mundane pattern can have many negative effects on us. If you’re not engaging in spontaneous adventures or making the most of your days, you begin to feel drained of your energy and even your happiness.
Life is for living!
Such a simple saying, but one of the most impactful things I heard all summer. Life is too short to allow yourself to feel stuck in any routine, job, relationship, or whatever it may be. Bad habits are very easy to form, and we can fall into this sort of trap before we even realize it’s happening. And before you know it, you’re just floating through life taking each day as it comes- no purpose, no drive, no growth.
Life is for living!
Every day is a gift, a blessing! Every day is an opportunity to enjoy life and pursue your goals. Make it your goal to try new things and take risks everyday. Especially with a new school year on the horizon, now more than ever we face the danger of falling into an unenjoyable routine. Of course work is the priority, but we must also give priority to our happiness. Go to the beach if you have a day off, play sports, go out with your friends, go to the gym- whatever you choose to do, make sure your days are different. Challenge yourself to grow each day and to have fun.
As we grow older, I feel some of us think we’ve outgrown fun. But what is life without fun and laughter?
Growth is about making moves outside of your comfort zone and taking risks. You can never grow if you live the same routine each day, just as your biceps won’t grow if you keep curling the same 5lbs dumbbell. Just about 5 days ago we had one of the biggest sporting events in history- Conor McGregor v Floyd Mayweather. The only thing I wish to highlight about the boxing match is the nature of the risk McGregor took. Yes, he lost. And yes, he was ridiculed by many. But that’s the nature of a risk. You don’t always win, but you will definitely learn. And if you play your cards right, you may get paid handsomely as well. People are always quick to judge and ridicule, and part of that is because they are stuck in that dull, routine life, and your desire to seek something greater makes them envious.
Ignore the naysayers! Life is for living, not for pleasing everyone.
Life is too short for us to waste the days we’ve been blessed with. This world is too competitive for us to be stagnant, or even worse, regress. Trinidad is too beautiful for us to limit our experiences to the bare minimum. There’s so much for us to do and we don’t know how much time we have to do it. If you’re bored every day, or you’re unhappy, starting changing things. Do something new, take a risk. Chase after fun times and happy memories. Life is for living, and we should all be living a happy life.
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist”- Oscar Wilde
